University of Iowa School of Music - Voxman

Iowa City, Iowa

The Voxman Building includes this one-of-a-kind suspended ceiling designed by LMN Architects using 3D parametric modeling to accommodate optimal sound reflection, stage lighting, house lighting, audio speakers and fire protection.

Its curvilinear form was created by SHApe Architectural using over 900 individual triangular composite metal panel tiles to create a “skin” attached to some 52 lateral ribs suspended from the buildings structure.

Additionally, three rehearsal rooms contain some 150 each “swarm” panels which act as both acoustical reflectors and integrated LED lighting sources.
